Shown above are pictures from 2016. Megan was the first Woman to win the 36 mile race and she had a kick butt time. The 3 Amigos Anthea,Oren and Jen just chilling after the race.
Moose year lucky number Eight for this event and the date is Saturday August 3 , 2019 at 8 AM. Attendance was down last year but the weather cooperated and it was lots of Moose fun. Records were smashed in both distances. See results on Ultrasignup. I do wish to Thank you for selecting this race. I know you have lots of choices.
The 2 races will be capped at 160 total so I suggest signing up early. This also ensures you get a shirt. There will be 2 races to choose from a heavy half Marathon
( closer to 14 miles ) and a 36 mile ultra. The 14 and 36 mile courses remain the same as the past 2 years. See course description with very cute graphics that my daughter Lynn created. There is no time limit but you need to plan to be done at around 12 hours as the course is not marked for night time running and it will be getting dark at 8 PM. If you plan to be on the trail past 8 PM bring a headlamp. There is a full meal after the races and we do feed crew and spectators.
The races Start and End at the picturesque Blueberry Hill Inn located on the Goshen/Ripton road which is a short drive from Middlebury Vermont. http://www.blueberryhillinn.com/ This Bed and Breakfast is a perfect place for family even if they do not run. If you stay at the Inn your room will be less than 100 yards from the start / finish line. Again this year ALL campers will be free for Friday and Sat. nights.
The 36 mile ( plus or minus) Ultra race will feature mostly single track. There is no pavement encountered during either race. See course description tab. Both races take you to the top of Mount Moosalamoo with an overlook of Lake Dunmore on the backside. Both races have difficult but beautiful single track. At several places along the route you will encounter a potentially diabolical stroll thru some stinging nettles. The 36 milers get the best of this wonderful plant. This should be a treat to be embraced. Not only do you climb to the top of Moosalamoo Mountain but the region that the trails are located in is called Moosalamoo region. The Abenaki native American Indians meaning for Moosalamoo is call or song of the moose. Every year Black Bear are sighted along the course but unfortunately Moose are not usually seen.
Most of these trails are located in the Green Mountain National forest. The Ultra race distance will be a great training run for longer distances and a large incremental step up from any road Marathon. The Heavy half is a perfect introduction to the wonderful world of trail running. Both distances are very tough but doable. The 14 miler has about 2400 feet of elevation gain and the 36 miler has about 5000 feet of gain. Anyone using Trekking poles for this race need to allow other runners to pass keeping the poles under control and away from the passing runners. Also this is a dog friendly race. They must be under control at all times and should not interfere with anyone running or enjoying the post race food and drink. I will be providing tech. shirts OR cotton/polyester shirts. If you already have too many shirts for yourself then an option is available to get a Youth shirt for a special child of yours. Extra shirts can be obtained by emailing the race director. Some runners have asked about a discount for not obtaining a shirt. To be able to keep the race pricing low a minimum number of shirts must be ordered , therefore that will not be an option. Please look at the "more" tab before you click on the registration link so you can look at the sizing options for the shirts offered. XS is not available for cotton shirts but a good alternative may be the Youth Large. 2XL will not be offered this year.

Pictured is the race director.
Everyone who signs up by July 25th will get a shirt of your choice. After that we can't guarantee a shirt but will try.
No transfers from signed up runner to a buddy. There is a no REFUNDS policy but that said this race director does have discretion and when contacted he usually bends that policy. Hey stuff happens. You can change races by contacting the race director or I think I have enabled an option so that you can do it yourself.
